25 Jan, 2012 12:00 AM
OUT of a field of coaches across the state, Medowie resident Matthew Fox has been named best NSW community coach in the Australian Government's Active After-school Communities (AASC) program for Term 4 2011.

According to AASC The award recognises Fox's "outstanding achievement" in coaching within the program, which aims to enhance the physical activity levels of Australian primary school children by encouraging them to become active.

Mr Fox was honoured to receive the award.

"I very much enjoy working with AASC because the program is successful in getting kids active and healthy in a fun and safe environment.

"It is great to get involved at a community level in the Port Stephens region," he said.

AASC Regional Coordinator Adam Wren said the award was a way of recognising high quality coaching within the program

"Matt is an inspiring coach who has consistently delivered high quality soccer programs throughout his involvement with the AASC program.

"It's obvious how much the schools and community has benefited from Matt's involvement and how much the children are enjoying themselves and developing under Matt's coaching," Wren said.

The AASC program is an Australian Government initiative delivered in up to 3,270 schools and out of school care centres across Australia.

Each term up to 190,000 children participate in up to 70 different sports and physical activities after school.
