Bid to go electronic

18 Aug, 2010 01:00 AM
THE days of Nelson Bay juniors and volunteers braving the elements to update the scoreboard during senior grade games could soon be over.

The Northern Blues will hold an ambitious fundraising event on October 23 in an effort to raise $30,000 to install electronic scoreboards at Tomaree Main Events Field and the junior's home ground also at Nelson Bay.

Open grade regulars Ray Sibbald and Blaine O'Flaherty are behind the idea.

"We are the only first-grade club in the competition that doesn't have one," Mr O'Flaherty, a club veteran of more than 200 appearances, said.

"One of the young juniors or someone else has to go and stand at the old scoreboard... even if its raining."

"We are not the only ones who use this ground, we share it with [Nelson Bay United Football Club] and they would also get to use it."

The formal dinner at Nelson Bay Bowling Club will cost $50 per head and include a three-course meal and entertainment.

Mr O'Flaherty and Mr Sibbald are seeking sponsors for the event. Call 0432 478 588 or 0402 018 991.
