BOBS Farm resident Allix Jones, 19, has finished runner up in the Youth Endurance World Riding Championship held in Abu Dhabi.
Part of a team of four girls representing Australia, the impressive result in the 120-kilometre event, which took place in December, has lifted her towards the sport's top tier, and helped to secure an impressive team bronze medal for the country.
Facing trying conditions in the deep sand of the Middle East, Jones managed to complete the event in just over five hours, trailing the eventual winner by a heart-wrenching 12 second margin.
Despite having never raced in similar conditions the young rider seems to have relished the opportunity, saying that the experience was "awesome, great, I'd love to do it again."
Asked what she enjoyed most about the event Jones does not hesitate to respond with "the support, and so many cars and people cheering you along, plus the adrenaline that you're at the world games and it's so big," she said.
After months of preparation including daily training and competitions most weekends, the result has not come without a great deal of hard work and sacrifice, but Jones is confident it has all been worth it.
"It takes up a lot of social time, and I never really go out but it's the good that you get out of it, I'm very dedicated to it," she said.
Jones is not the only Port Stephens resident to have competed in the event, with fellow Bob's Farm resident Brooke Warner also representing Australia and finishing 16th overall.
