WILEY and crafty were words former tennis great Peter Doohan used to describe one of the Bay's next tennis hopefuls, Harry Richards.
At just 12, Harry is showing all the signs of a bright future in the game he has been playing for only two years.
"He is a brainy athlete, a crafty and wiley competitor," Nelson Bay Tennis Club's Peter Doohan said.
He said the tenacious tennis style of the under 12 tennis junior is proving to be his biggest asset.
Quick footed and pint sized, Harry looks to advantage his game by relying on parts of the sport other than strength.
He is being closely shadowed by another touted as a future star, 10-year-old Ryley Gerts.
Doohan is strongly tipping the pair to do good things with both ranked among the top players in the Northumberland region, which takes in parts of the Hunter and Central Coast.
Harry said he is hoping the lure of some big dollars down the track will keep him in a competitive frame of mind for years to come.
"I love it [tennis]," he said.
"You get to travel and chase the money."
