Casting off the sand at Little Beach, Brody, 13, latched onto this 4.5kg snapper (pictured) in what was a day out for the young angler.

Caught late November, Brody's mother Kristy Warner said her son, who is a keen fisherman, had never caught anything the size of the hearty looking snapper.

"He just threw the rod in for fun," she said.

Brody and his family were on the beach Sunday enjoying the little sun that had been on offer lately.

"He was so excited," Ms Warner said.

It makes for a positive start to the summer for any anglers and holiday makers out to try their hand at the sport.
