Comfortable win for Lions

28 Oct, 2009 04:30 PM
RAYMOND Terrace scored a comfortable 70 run win over Weston Workers at Jack Collins Oval on Saturday.

The Lions scored 8 for 219 from their fifty overs with skipper Graham Maytom top scoring with a hard-hitting innings of 43.

Openers Nathan Ward (37) and Brad Bidner (38) gave the side a solid start with an opening stand of 72.

Will Osmond (30) and Sam Jenkinson (35) then combined to put on a further 52 runs.

Early wickets to quicks Joey Collins (2 for 22) and Wayne Sullivan (2 for 28) ensured Weston were struggling at 4 for 72 halfway through their innings.

Troy Mason (3 for 22) and Tyson Jolly (2 for 22) helped to wrap up proceedings.

A blistering century to Bryce Smith was the highlight in second grade, as the Lions fell just short of outright points.

Smith hit nine fours and ten sixes to register 96 of his 110 unbeaten runs in boundaries.

Justin Rainbow was no slouch up the other end either, scoring 55 not out, with 48 runs in boundaries.
