NELSON Bay lawn bowler and New Zealand representative Richard Girvan is one step closer to playing for his country in next year's Commonwealth Games.
Girvan recently had success in Malaysia, playing a three test series and taking out all events.
Girvan won the triples in the first test, pairs in the second and due to his winning form was put up against current world singles champion Safuan Said in the third.
Girvan defeated the Malaysian bowler in straight sets 6-5 and 9-2.
"It was an important series with a Commonwealth spot up for grabs," he said.
"It was important we put in a good performance and winning all three was a good result."
Nelson Bay bowls coordinator Terry Antram said he was confident Girvan would be named in the side, to play in India in October, when selectors make their choice early next year.
Antram is also expected to be named in the Australian side.
