PORT Stephens fishermen and fishing groups now have a chance to reinvest the cash from their licenses into improving recreational fishing in the area.
The NSW Recreational Fishing Trust grants are now open and are funded by the sale of NSW recreational fishing licences.
Port Stephens MP Craig Baumann encouraged all to apply for the funding.
"This is a fantastic opportunity to get much needed community fishing projects happening that will benefit recreational fishers in our local area" he said.
"Fishing is an immensely popular recreational activity, with around one million people dropping a line in NSW each year."
Funding is open to individuals, groups and organisations including fishing clubs, council and universities. Joint applications are also encouraged.
Applications for funding close on Friday, March 2 and for more information visit www.fisheries.nsw.gov.au .
