WHEN Anna Bay's Ashley McIntyre sprained an ankle ligament in February, taking her school touch football career to a new height in the same year looked unlikely.
But that's exactly what the 17-year-old has done in a year she is also juggling Higher School Certificate study, representative netball and the recurring ankle problem.
McIntyre will represent the 18 years NSW Independent Schools (CIS) touch football team at the National Touch Championships in Caloundra, Queensland from September 15 to 18.
McIntyre, who will likely play in the middle or link positions for the NSW side, secured her spot at a possibles versus probables gala day in Penrith in April.
McIntyre is determined to play through her niggling ankle problem.
"I rolled my ankle quite a few times at state netball recently so it was really sore after that, but it should be okay," she said.
Previously McIntyre had only made the Hunter Association of Independent Co-Educational Schools (AICES) team for touch football, but this year survived the CIS selection cull.
