A SENSATIONAL third quarter performance from Nelson Bay against Cardiff in last weekend's Black Diamond AFL preliminary finals has secured them a spot in Saturday's grand final.
Nelson Bay kicked nine goals and seven behinds in the third period and restricted Cardiff to two goals as many behinds.
Led by Jeremy Ridgeway who kicked six majors and proved a handful for Cardiff up front, the Bay snuck into the premiership decider with an eight-point win (118-110).
The Marlins now face minor premiers Singleton from 11.50am on Saturday.
In more good news for the club Nelson Bay Brad Spencer and Daron Emmett finished first and second in the Ian Granland Medal Best and Fairest count at the recent Black Diamond AFL presentation night.
Clubman Don Spencer was also recognised for years of dedication to the Nelson Bay club, being awarded the AFL ACT NSW volunteer of the year award together with Brendan Wilkie.
Former Nelson Bay players John Burns and Jason Woodcoe were also selected in the Black Diamond AFL team of the decade.
