Nix hits career best form

25 Jan, 2012 12:00 AM
AFTER a year of success in the pool, Tomaree swimmer Pamela Nix has her heart set on an even bigger 2012.

The 44 year old has hit career best form during the past few months, breaking numerous state Masters records.

In October at the NSW Short Course Championships Nix set a new bench mark for her age group in the 200m butterfly and the 200m individual medley.

Then in November she built on that effort setting a new NSW best time for the 400m freestyle.

Finally Nix went to another level earlier this month breaking the state 1500m record and finishing only two seconds outside of the world top 10 for ages 40 to 44.

The results are all the more impressive considering the path she has taken.

Returning to the pool at age 30, after giving it up as a teenager, Nix has rediscovered her love for the sport.

"I didn't realise I could still swim but you never lose it, I'm enjoying it more at this age and I'm going better than ever before," she said.

New coach Tom Davis recieves much of the credit for her recent success.

"His hard work and his dedication make it easy for you to get in and do the kilometres," she said.

With the year to come bringing a step-up to a new age group, Nix has big plans for 2012.

"There is so much I'm aiming for next year, I think I've just got to aim for what I want to do."

Chief on that list is the World Masters competition being held in Italy in June which she calls her "biggest aim for next year".

But the modest Nix will not be drawn on her chances there.

"I've got no idea, we went five years ago and there was about 7000 competitors so it's big, it's hard to say."
