It comes after councillor Carol McCaskie moved a motion at the council's latest ordinary meeting to consider the possibility of a marina.
She said given the increase in boat traffic and the growing number of the people using the waterway, a marina might be necessary.
"This will likely increase when the dredging of the Myall River is completed," she said.
She also believes the marina would inject money into the economy through both permanent and casual users.
"The report should give consideration to which side of the bridge a marina would be built on," Cr McCaskie said.
"It's on the table so now they can consider it."
She said Tea Gardens Hawks Nest was a coastal resort town and a marina could help continue to grow the area.
"People might prefer to have their boats on private moorings," she said.
Cr McCaskie said it could also encourage more day trippers from Nelson Bay.
