The 15-year-old from North Arm Cove began racing at the age of 10 after years of triathlons sparked her interest in cycling, and last month Follett raced some of the country's top juniors in the under-17 women's division.
The best riders from each state were selected for a team pursuit side and Follett made the cut in NSW.
Her state team for the team pursuit race took out second position to Victoria in the three-kilometre event.
In the 500-metre time trial Follett placed 14th in her age category and 10th in the individual pursuit race.
The young rider is part of the Hunter District Cycling Club, based in Newcastle, and is sponsored by Daisy Chains.
She said Daisy Chains was a development team for junior women which prepared them to race in professional teams when they were older.
"We [team] work together in the races and look out for each other," she said.
When school is over professional cycling is on the cards for Follett, who is heading into grade 11 next year.
"I'd like to get that far but it all depends on my HSC. I want to get a good ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank) and knuckle down."
Follett was offered the chance to compete in Europe next year for six weeks but said she was still unsure whether she would take it. However, the young rider has her sights set on the Junior Worlds, which she can qualify for when she is older, and plans to compete in the under-19s.
