All parties walked out happy with the progress on the street extension after the Port Stephens Council meeting on June 24.
The much-disputed plans garnered a strong public response when the concept for a one-way street northbound went on exhibition.
The main issues were the inclusion of space set aside for a commercial development and the lack of pedestrian footpaths.
Councillors were also unclear about the inclusion of commercial space on the site, questioning the acting group manager of corporate services Carmel Forster at the meeting.
Ms Forster explained there was no immediate plan to build on the site as the market was not ripe for for commercial space.
She said the site would be landscaped as usable green space for the community in the meantime.
The street extension will be designed through the capital works program and an investigation is under way on whether another pedestrian walkway could be included.
