MALLABULA Rugby League Club cemented its bid for a semi-final berth with a 20-10 victory against Tea Gardens.
The Panthers handled the wet and slippery conditions in a very physical encounter.
The second half became a grinding battle.
Mallabula, with a superior completion rate, were rewarded with the competition points.
Players' player Owen Daniels was a busy back-rower in attack and defence.

Nelson Bay golfers win places in team
TWO talented Nelson Bay junior golfers, Julian Van Dartel and Connor Benjamin, have won selection in the Newcastle District Junior Golf team to play the Central Coast district at The Springs golf course at Peats Ridge this Sunday.
Also showing his class on the golf scene is former Nelson Bay captain Ross Skinner, who won the Newcastle District Golf Association master's title on the demanding Charlestown layout.
The Holden Scramble was held at Nelson Bay last Sunday and in a close contest the team of Craig King, Paul Mitchell, James Marshall and Ian Sandy advanced to regionals beating the "dream team" of Tony Short, Charles Haggett, Brett Allman and Clint Brionn by half a shot.
Juniors do extremely well in rugby union
NELSON Bay Junior Rugby Union Club continues its stellar season, with four teams in the top three.
The under-14s team, coached by Paul Murray and Dion Cooper, are leading the competition with just one loss for the season.
The team had eight representatives picked in the Newcastle Wildfires Rugby Club representative team.
The under-15s, coached by Guy Holbert, had three players picked for the rep team, with classy centre Liam Kelly selected in the NSW Country team to play Sydney City teams this weekend.
The under-11s team, coached by Mitch Fraser and Guy Norris, have scored more than 380 points, and the under-13s, coached by Andrew Evans, are starting to find form at the right end of the season.Magpies run riot as
Pirates flounder
RAYMOND Terrace rugby league team crushed the Carrington Pirates 74-1 last Saturday.
The Pirates looked all at sea, with elusive Magpies fullback Billy Greentree racing in four long-range solo tries. Forwards Adam Jenkinson and Nathan Ward both crossed for three four-pointers.
Players' player award went to hard-working prop Dan Forbes while the coaches' award went to non-stop lock Luke Lidbury.
The Magpies showed their community support with a Footy Show-style night at Lakeside Village Tavern raising money for the Alex McKinnon Foundation.
