On July 18, and ahead of the NRL's round 19 dedicated to injured Newcastle Knight Alex McKinnon, the Soldiers Point students dressed in football jerseys and took part in drills and activities.
"Our vice-captain, Tess Richards, raised the idea of holding an Alex McKinnon Day, in order to support the NRL's Rise For Alex round," assistant principal Ashlee Pawley said.
"Many of the students play rugby league or touch footy themselves and realise the seriousness of spinal injury."
The Raymond Terrace Junior Rugby League Football Club also did its part to help raise awareness about spinal injury by hosting a function last weekend.
More than $10,000 was raised for the Rise for Alex Foundation and for another injured rugby player, Curtis Landers.
"Both are local, seriously injured rugby league football players and is therefore close to our hearts," the club's Jessica Edmonds said.
The Magpies organised and ran the event.
