Matthew Karwalski, who is ranked third in Australia, was told at 9pm on Tuesday by Squash Australia officials that he had been selected for the five-man squad and the men’s doubles in the Games.
He is the fourth Port Stephens athlete who will appear in the Games with Natasha Scott (nee van Eldick) and Richard Girvan for lawn bowls and Michael Diamond for shooting.
The result came after a two-month legal fight, which ended up in the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
Karwalski, 28, was expected to be an automatic selection when the five-man Commonwealth Games squad was announced on May 4.
Especially after winning the Darwin International Doubles with his coach David Palmer in August 2013.
However Zac Alexander, ranked seventh in Australia, was selected ahead of Karwalski.
Alexander is in currently in Glasgow preparing for the Games with the Australian squash squad.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport’s decision will mean Alexander will not compete in the Games.
Karwalski will arrive in Glasgow on Friday.
The men’s doubles begins on Tuesday.
