It is believed that Coolabah Reserve was vandalised on Tuesday, July 8, or Wednesday, July 9.
Trees were ripped up by the roots, shrubs were trampled and there were signs of a bonfire.
Medowie Tidy Towns chairwoman Pauline Avery said the vandals had "done a job on it".
The park has been well-used since Medowie Public School and the Tidy Towns group planted more than 80 trees and shrubs for National Tree Day in 2012.
Ms Avery said it will take several hours of work to get the park back to its former glory.
"It is so disappointing," she said.
"I can't get my head around the fact that someone would do this, that they value the community so little."
Medowie Tidy Towns is urging residents to be vigilant and stand up for their community by reporting vandalism and anti-social behaviour to Port Stephens Council rangers on 4980 0255 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
This isn't the only vandalism the Tidy Towns group has experienced recently, with trees dug up and stolen from the mounds landscaped at the roundabout on the junction of Richardson and Medowie roads.
"It is hundreds of dollars and several hours of work to replace," she said.
