People were enthusiastic about sharing their thoughts about what to do with the defunct site after the Examiner story that the resort would soon go on the market.
While a majority of comments made on the Examiner's website and Facebook post about the resort were to "demolish it", other interesting ideas were also put forward.
Aaron McMillan, from Anna Bay, suggested Port Stephens Council buy the resort to use it as a "base" for tourism operators.
"Set it up as a base for all the 'rides' that are available," Mr McMillan said.
"Camels, horses, 4x4 [sand dune tours] and sand boarders et cetera."
Karen Ekins, from Nelson Bay, suggested a wilderness park to be built instead of a resort while Jake Keevers, of Medowie, said to turn it into an "end of the world zombie apocalypse paintball centre".
Other ideas included turning the site into a bowling club and a water park.
Destination Port Stephens chief executive Janelle Gardner was also in favour of something constructive to happen with the site.
"As it is, it is a terrible eyesore and really takes away from the beauty of one of our main visitor drawcards," she said.
"It would be great to see a facility that provides benefits for the residents, the business community and visitors. However, we must realise that any idea for use of the site needs to provide a return on investment for future developers.
"We are continually promoting Port Stephens to the rest of the world, hopefully the right investor with right financial backing will come along soon and fall in love with Port Stephens like we all have."
