A development application (DA) was lodged with Port Stephens Council in August, with the garden planned for the grounds at the Raymond Terrace Community Care Centre.
It is an initiative of integratedliving with the sensory garden providing a place for people with disabilities such as a visual impairment or dementia to experience nature in a tactile environment.
The garden design includes established paths and flower beds.
There is a water feature, bird bath, stepping stones and pond.
A vegetable garden will provide something to taste, while the design has plenty of seating, a deck, pergola and a community mural.
integratedliving lease space in the community centre, which is owned by Port Stephens Council.
The council is working with the design team and if the DA is approved will provide the space for the garden as part of the lease.
