Nominations for the NSW Grandparent of the Year Awards are open until Friday, September 26.
Directed by the Council on the Ageing NSW, the awards encourage people to nominate a grandparent or older Australian in their community to recognise the extraordinary contribution they make.
Chief executive of Council on the Ageing NSW, Ian Day, said if older Australians did not undertake the voluntary work they did many clubs and community organisations would not exist.
Grandparent Carer of the Year is the award for an outstanding grandparent who is also the full-time carer of their grandchild or grandchildren.
Community Grandparent of the Year goes to a grandparent who is actively engaged in volunteer work related to children in their community.
Grand Friend of the Year is an award for an individual aged 50 years or more who has made a positive contribution to children’s lives in a professional capacity.
Nominations can be made at grandparentsday.org.au.
Award winners will be announced on Grandparents Day, October 26.
