About 2000 mattresses are expected to be dropped off on Saturday, September 27.
The day is an initiative of Port Stephens Council to curb illegal mattress dumping, with incidences of illegal dumping dropping in the past year.
"Since the introduction of waste programs such as Mattress Drop Off days and a council-led crackdown on the illegal dumping of mattresses, the incidence has been dramatically reduced," said Dr Aaron Malloy, waste management co-ordinator of the council.
A whopping 1087 mattresses were collected during mattress drop-off days in the 2013-14 financial year.
A further 1690 mattresses were delivered to the station during the year, totalling a whopping 2777.
"They are completely pulled apart and each component is recycled: the springs are recycled, the foam goes to Dunlop for carpet underlay, and the wood is chipped," Dr Malloy said.
"The only part that can't be recycled is the fabric."
That equates to 96 per cent of the mattress being recycled.
