A commercial dishwasher has been installed in the hall, paid for with a $2500 grant by the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal.
It comes after an open day in 2012, where the Karuah Community Hall Committee asked the public what improvements they wanted to see.
The majority of feedback indicated two things were most wanted: a dishwasher and airconditioner.
‘‘From the results [of the open day], the committee reported they had hopes of installing a commercial dishwasher and airconditioning,’’ hall committee member Lynn Paine said.
‘‘Since then the committee has worked steadily and has taken important steps forward in realising that ambition.’’
Ms Paine said the committee was grateful for the support it received from Port Stephens Council and the Karuah River Men’s Shed in applying for the grant.
Each wrote letters of support, which Ms Paine believed helped them achieve one of the committee’s goals.
Next on the to-do list for the committee is to landscape the outside of the hall, plant a new garden, and work towards buying an airconditioning unit.
