City Plan Services and Place Partners, independent planning specialist businesses hired by the council, will carry out a review of the CBD.
Residents will also be able to have their say about the Hawks Nest CBD with the council to lead two workshops next week.
“The community workshops will enable residents to share how they see Hawks Nest today and to have input into how they would like to see it develop into the future,’’ the council’s manager of strategic planning, Roger Busby, said.
‘‘It will be an opportunity for everyone to consider the land use options for the Hawks Nest village centre and whether there are opportunities to look at other areas within the village area that could be activated,” he said.
The review will look to establish the appropriate size and location of the Hawks Nest town centre and to determine appropriate planning controls that should be applied to that area.
At the same time, consultants will also consider whether there may be opportunities for commercial or mixed use development.
The review combined with community feedback will result in the development of a masterplan for the Hawks Nest CBD.
The masterplan will identify principles and planning controls for the Hawks Nest village centre and take into consideration the ‘‘unique values and opportunities presented by the town’’, Mr Busby said.
The project is expected to be completed by early 2015.
Community workshops will be held at Tea Gardens Hawks Nest Surf Club.
The first will be held from 5.30pm on October 8 and a second from 9am on October 9.
