Karuah will come alive on Saturday, October 18, as woodchoppers, oyster sellers, families and duck racers converge on the town for the annual Oyster and Timber Festival.
Now in its 13th year, the festival starts in Longworth Park at 9am.
Dawn Lyall, treasurer of the festival committee, has been organising the event since it began.
‘‘We decided the festival would be something to promote Karuah,’’ Ms Lyall said.
During the years the festival has attracted internationally renowned woodchoppers and at one stage had an oyster shucking competition.
This year’s woodchopping competition has already had 26 people, hailing from across NSW, sign up to put their axe to the test.
There will be market stalls, food, a taekwondo demonstration, jumping castles and children’s activities throughout the day.
Back by popular demand will be the duck racing competition.
Festival-goers buy a yellow rubber duck with a number.
Their duck is thrown with all the others off Karuah Bridge.
The ducks float down the river to the finish line manned by a boat.
The first numbered duck to cross the line wins.
Other competitions and entertainment will be held in Karuah RSL on Saturday night.
Longworth Park can be found off Tarean Road along Karuah River.
