The men's team got through the first round only to be knocked out by Nanima Common Connection in round two.
According to team coach Justin Ridgeway, the other team had more passion behind them on the day after a young mate died in an accident before the game.
"I think they had more passion then us and had more to play for," he said.
The 17s team did not fare well, losing in the first round to Narwan who were just too strong to beat on the day, said Ridgeway.
He said despite the losses the players were keen to take the field again next year and there are already plans afoot to get a women's team off the ground.
"It's not just about winning. It's about seeing family and about the event," Ridgeway said.
The Newcastle All Blacks and Walgett Aboriginal Connection fought it out for top spot.
Walgett took the honours with a 28-16 victory despite trailing at half-time.
Two tries from fullback George Krepa and halfback William Wright in the final minutes allowed Walgett to claim the $67,000 first prize.
