Motoring up into the western corners of the port, the Westwoods wrestled mudcrabs to a thumping 2.5kg before targeting the channels for a feed of blue swimmer crabs.
While on crabs, moves by NSW Fisheries to protect turtles in Port Stephens will not stop crabbing.
What will occur is a change in methods - witches hats will be replaced by dilly pots and wide mouthed traps will be replaced by round entrances.
Recent law changes will permit two traps and four dilly pots.
Snapper continue to go haywire over the shallow reefs that run from Fishermans Bay north to Broughton Island.
The big swells excite the big reddies into a feeding frenzy with reports of snapper caught off the rocks at Boat Harbour, Boulder Bay and Fingal Island.
Mulloway continue to attack fresh squid and live yellowtail in the deep water off Middle Island, Soldiers Point.
The Duffy boys landed a 15kg fish right on the change of tide.
This must be one of the best mulloway seasons I have reported for many years.
