The volunteers group of Great Lakes residents formed to focus on reducing the amount of weeds growing at the Lakes Way beach.
‘‘With the assistance of Great Lakes Council, the group will methodically work on the reduction of bitou bush and other nasty weeds along this iconic beach,’’ the council’s manager of parks and recreation, Andrew Staniland, said.
Mr Staniland said the group meets once a week on a Saturday at the southern end of the beach in Newmans Avenue and anyone who is interested should call the council before turning up on site to lend a hand.
Mr Staniland said the council supports more than 50 volunteer groups that work on a variety of tasks from bush regeneration to mowing.
The council meets all groups and assists them to plan their works, and supplies necessary equipment and personal protection equipment.
‘‘We are very happy to have new volunteer groups start up,’’ Mr Staniland said.
If you are interested in getting involved or want more information phone the council on 6591 7222.
