A ceremony was held at the council’s October 28 ordinary meeting with mayor Jan McWilliams welcoming Tharinu Basnayake, his wife Nirmalee Mohottige, originally from Sri Lanka, and Dominque Devambez, of France, to the Great Lakes.
‘‘This is one of my favourite duties as mayor – to be able to have this personal interaction with new citizens and to make them feel welcome,’’ Cr McWilliams said.
The trio made their pledge of commitment in the council chambers in front of friends, family, councillors and senior staff.
The next citizenship ceremony for the Great Lakes will be held on Australia Day, January 26, at Club Forster.
Everyone is welcome.
