UnitingCare Ageing's nurse liaison program, which is run at its Salamander Bay aged care home, has been awarded a Better Practice Award by the Commonwealth government's Australian Aged Care Quality Agency (AACQA).
The AACQA award was to reward UnitingCare Ageing's innovation in residential aged care, specifically for its nurse liaison program.
The program was started four years ago and is not run in any other UnitingCare Ageing homes across Australia.
The program ensures the resident's general practitioner knows their current health care, medication and treatment needs without the fuss of them having to physically go to the centre for treatment.
This is overseen by Anne Robards, who liaises between Nelson Bay Medical Centre and the UnitingCare Ageing Salamander Bay home about the resident's health needs.
"It's a great achievement for Nelson Bay Medical Centre and Salamander Bay aged care," Ms Robards said.
