Athletes from YMCA Tomaree Aquatic Centre competed in the long course of the Coolangatta Gold, which was held on the Gold Coast at the beginning of November.
The Nelson Bay Crusties, made up of Craig Holland, Elle Clayton Brown, 12, Suellen Goyne, Nirvana Goyne, 3, and Mark Watson received a third place medal after finishing the 42 kilometre course in six hours and 32 minutes.
Watson completed the 23km swim and both legs of the run.
He first ran 2.1km from Miami to Burleigh then the last 7.1kms from Currumbin to Coolangatta.
Holland swam 3.5kms and Goyne completed the 6.1km board section of the marathon event.
Elle and Nirvana were handlers for the team, helping the three competitors with equipment and morale.
The Nelson Bay Crusties came third in the mixed over 35s in arguably the worst Coolangatta Gold conditions in years.
Fingal Bay surf lifesavers Christine Outteridge, Clint Brown and Andrew Parker also competed in the Coolangatta Gold.
Outteridge won gold in the over 50s event.
