Matthew McCalister, 28, of Station Street, Waratah, is alleged to have become violent after he was confronted about his behaviour while on a bus parked in Raymond Terrace about 5.45pm on November 19.
McCalister is alleged to have hit the 44-year-old male driver in the head with a full bottle of alcohol, pulling him to the floor and stomping on his head and chest.
The incident was recorded by a passenger on the bus.

A Port Stephens police sergeant allegedly spotted McCalister trying to get away, and had to draw his gun when he was threatened with a carving knife.
After resisting arrest, McCalister was eventually taken to Raymond Terrace Police Station.
