The program encourages children of all ages to pick up books during the Christmas break, or for parents to read to them, with prizes available for those who do the most reading.
‘‘We are running the summer reading program at all library branches this year,’’ the council’s library outreach officer, Meredith Campbell, said.
Rewards will be given after a log of ten books has been read.
‘‘Names of everyone who completes the challenge will go into a barrel to win a special prize at each branch.’’
To participate, drop into any of the Great Lakes libraries from Monday, December 8 to register.
Preschool, primary and secondary participants receive an activity booklet and log sheet, to be returned to any library by Wednesday, January 21. Winners announced January 23.
