Through a $147,500 grant, cyclists will get a shared pathway along Sandy Point Road in Corlette from Worimi to Foreshore Drive. Council will match the NSW Coastline Cycleway grant.
However, two other sections of cycleway - along Sandy Point Road from Foreshore Drive to Conroy Park and along the Corlette headland - are now on the back burner.
In the case of the first path, council will hand back $167,500 to the government after community feedback raised safety concerns due to the high number of driveways, narrow verges, high brick fences and steep driveways.
The second path proposal was rejected due to cost, estimated at $2.5 million.
Cr Sally Dover said the outcome was the best possible at the moment, while Cr John Nell was more pessimistic, saying he would not see all three pathways completed in his lifetime.
