The club staged an outdoor tournament, using the giant chess board as the centrepiece.
All students had a fantastic day out and the club is now aiming to have its own giant chess board at the school.
Chess master Adrian Watts has been training the students for the past three years and has progressed them to the stage where they are keen for a challenge.
Mr Watts said 127 students attended club workshops this year, kindergarten to year six, and they look forward to expressing their skills each week.
They have even developed a motto for their club "look before you leap" which is recited before each game.
Mr Watts said chess encourages thinking ahead, a useful life lesson.
