It will mark five generations of the Hughes family attending, and one of the highlights in the school's long history.

This year St Brigid's will celebrate 165 years of Catholic education in Raymond Terrace.

It was believed the school, according to its own information books, began in 1890. Teacher and organiser of the 165-year celebrations, Kristen Jones, believed this was wrong and approached principal David Palmer to do some digging.

"There was evidence that the Sisters of Mercy arrived in Raymond Terrace on May 5, 1881, and 'began teaching almost straight away' in schools at both Raymond Terrace and Millers Forest," Ms Jones said.

After many hours of research, she collected articles written by parents of the school in 1850, also information about wages to teachers at Raymond Terrace Catholic School in both 1851 and 1852.

"I then took these articles down to Raymond Terrace Historical Society, and spent some time with Moira Saunderson, who agreed that this was sufficient evidence of our school existing in this time," Ms Jones said.

And so the celebration planning began.

The school will look to publish a book on the history of St Brigid's this year.

It will also look to celebrate at the school with an open day and a long table dinner.
