Flight Sergeant Chris Maidorn receives an all expenses paid trip to Thailand as Australia's representative at this year's Centenary Anzac Day celebrations.
"It's quite a shock to be receiving this award ... but also a very proud moment," Flt Sgt Maidorn said.
"I think any of the other four nominees were just as worthy, but I will cherish this moment forever. I owe a lot to my family, workmates and friends."
Flt Sgt Maidorn's wife Jennifer is currently serving overseas with the RAAF, leaving the 45-year-old with the added duty of looking after the couple's three children - Luke, 13, Sarah, 12 and Claire, 8.
As president of the Port Stephens Junior AFL Club, Flt Sgt Maidorn's roles include registration, website, advertising and sponsorship, as well as helping out with the Auskick programs, health and safety, training and grounds, and all club correspondence.
"This is my seventh year with the AFL club and I have enjoyed every minute. It's a great family community."
