A HOUSE party in Hawks Nest turned violent during the Australia Day weekend with a man accused of seriously assaulting another partygoer before running away.

Paramedics and police were called to a house in Yamba Street about 2am on January 25 on reports a 30-year-old North Arm Cove man had been seriously injured.
Police said he and another man, a 30-year-old from Lambton, had been on the second-storey balcony of the house when an argument broke out followed by a physical altercation.
It is believed the men knew each other.
It is alleged that the North Arm Cove man was knocked unconscious to the ground by the Lambton man during the physical altercation. Emergency services were called.
Police said the Lambton man left the house before they arrived.
The North Arm Cove man was taken to John Hunter Hospital with a head injury.
On Tuesday, January 27, police said the man had been cleared of a serious head injury but had facial bruising and cuts.
As the North Arm Cove man was taken to hospital, Port Stephens detectives travelled to Hawks Nest from Raymond Terrace and launched an investigation.
About 3am the Lambton man handed himself in to the Tea Gardens Police Station. He was arrested and a forensic examination carried out.
Police charged the man with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
He was released on conditional bail to appear at East Maitland courthouse at a date to be set.
