Peter Arena, a resident and businessman of Nelson Bay for 14 years, said he felt privileged to be running under the banner of Mr Nile and Lower House party leader Paul Green.
"Reverend Nile has often been called the 'watchdog of parliament' and, as we know of late, there have been so many allegations of corruption on both sides of parliament," Mr Arena said.
"I want to be a watchdog for the people of Port Stephens."
Mr Arena said some of the bills the CDP had been responsible for over the years included the restrictions on tobacco advertising and smoking in public buildings and cars, and the first laws prohibiting child pornography in NSW.
"There is a list of 28 bills accredited to the CDP from 1981 till 2014," said Mr Arena, a committed Christian for over 30 years.
"Over the past 40 years I have been a worship leader, scripture teacher, assistant pastor, Christian radio host, chapter president Port Stephens for the Full Gospel Business Men and MC for Reverend Nile."
