A NATIONAL Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) wild dog control program that was due to start in Port Stephens next week will now start on March 15.

The control program was to be conducted in three Port reserves to tackle the issue of wild dogs.
Instead of being conducted between Monday, March 9, to Monday, April 2, the program will now be held between Sunday, March 15 and be completed by Thursday, April 9.
NPWS area manager Andrew Bond said 1080 meat baits will be laid in Tilligerry State Conservation Area, Tomaree National Park and Worimi Conservation Lands.
"We're working with Hunter Local Land Services, Port Stephens Council and landholders," Mr Bond said.
"Visitors and neighbours are reminded that wild dog control programs can harm domestic dogs, which should be kept under control at all times, particularly in the vicinity of 1080 baits.
"Domestic dogs are not permitted in national parks and nature reserves. On the Worimi lands domestic dogs are only permitted on the beach and must be on a lead at all times."
