Irrawang High's Jack Caban, 15, has been named in the national under-18s squad to tour Brazil while 12-year-old Georgia Fuhrer-Andrews will travel to Spain.
Recovering from a ligament tear in his lower leg suffered during trials, Caban, a goalkeeper, said he was thrilled to gain selection for a third straight season.
"To be chosen this year was quite a shock because it's an older age group ... the tours are valuable for my game both indoor and outdoor and I have made some lifelong friends."
Provided he can find the money to fund the trip, Caban could be joining his proud dad Peter, who has been selected to go to Brazil as coach of the under-15s boys and girls squads.
While Jack continues to work hard in futsal, his ultimate goal is to one day don the Newcastle Jets jumper. This season he will turn out for the under-17s elite NPL squad for the Adamstown Rosebuds.
For Fuhrer-Andrews, a Maitland Grossman student, the 16-day tour will be a great opportunity to further her game.
"I couldn't believe it when I found out I was in the Australian team .. I know other girls that are in the team so it will be great to share the experience with them."
