The Tomaree Breast Cancer Support Group's annual golf day is one of two major events it holds to raise funds.
"The golf day and a big brekkie we hold in October are our two major fund-raisers for the year and really, they are our bread and butter," group president Taurie Lalor said.
"We are one of three cancer support groups in the Bay but our difference is that we are fully independent and rely on donations and other people fund-raising for us."
Now in its 15th year, the cancer support group has become beloved within the community.
So much so its golf day, to be held at Nelson Bay Golf Club on March 31, quickly filled up to capacity.
Similarly, the group's annual breakfast books out just as fast.
The group currently has 12 patients on its books and around 50 drivers.
A major service the group offers is driving patients into Newcastle for treatment.
Ms Lalor, who was recently re-elected as the group's president for a fourth year, said the group had helped around 200 people in the time it had been up and running.
"And that's just on the Tomaree Peninsula," Ms Lalor said.
Joining Ms Lalor on the committee this year would be vice president Christine Amos, secretary Liz Cameron and treasurer Ros Slaughter.
Bev Apps would continue as the group's publicity officer and Suzanne Huggett retained the job of rostering the drivers.
