Although Katie was overlooked for the award, the 17-year-old said she was overwhelmed just to receive a nomination.
"I feel really privileged to have been chosen as a finalist," said Katie after claiming two gold medals at the state little athletics championships staged at Homebush last Saturday.
"I have enjoyed my time as a little athlete since the age of eight. Next season I will be competing in the seniors rank and that's something I am looking forward to."
A year 12 student at Maitland Grossman, Katie said she would in future focus on the 100 and 200-metre sprints.
"I plan on staying at the Raymond Terrace club, they have top coaches who have helped and supported me over many years."
Kerry O'Keefe, Little Athletics CEO, was astounded by the calibre of nominations in the scholarship.
"Raymond Terrace Little Athletics Centre along with Katie's family and friends should be very proud of her for being selected as one of our most promising young athletes," said Kerry.
