WHILE it is good to see a diverse range of opinions on the Landcom development in Anna Bay, it is disappointing for the debate to be lowered by the tone of Rick Colin's letter [Examiner, March 19].

Longer term residents would know that land for nearby development had previously been used for poultry and dairy farming.
The "vocal minority" are a concerned cross-section of the community.
Stopping the development is not what the protesters are about. They are about mitigating the impact on the flora and fauna, traffic issues in neighbouring streets and drainage concerns.
Groups such as these are important in providing some checks and balances to counter any negative aspects of large developments.
Surely this scrutiny should be encouraged and signifies a vibrant and caring community, interested in a better quality development.
