Author Patricia Brown will speak about her book Recovery at the library on May 5 and share her experiences with loss.
“Tragedy was my greatest teacher,’’ Brown said.
‘‘In fact, death has enriched my experience of life and helped me to know myself and find myself – a gift without equal.’’
Brown said that after a loved one died, some people lose even more – the art of living.
‘‘They shut down because of overwhelming sadness and confusion.
‘‘They can spend years cloaked in sorrow and locked away from life and love.’’
Brown hoped her book would give people struggling with the loss of a loved one ‘‘clarity, direction and hope’’.
Using her own research and training, Brown would look to help people understand the impact of loss, the consequences of grief left unresolved and how this could be overcome.
The May 5 talk, starting at 7pm, is free but bookings are necessary.
