The body of the 62-year-old man was found by a National Parks and Wildlife Service ranger at about noon on April 10.
Police said the body was found near a picnic area off Mungo Brush Road at Mungo Brush.
A car was located nearby.
The body was reportedly that of Phillip Edwards.
According to court listings, Edwards, who police said lived at Artarmon near Sydney, was due to appear before a Sydney Downing Centre judge for trial on Monday, April 13.
Edwards was allegedly said to be part of a child prostitution ring which operated in Sydney in the late 1970s and 1980s.
Edwards faced 152 counts of aggravated sexual assault and aggravated indecent assault against seven complainants, who were all reportedly young boys at the time.
He was to face 12 of those charges in district court on Monday.
Police were investigating. However, the death was not being treated as suspicious.
Anyone with information was asked to phone Crime Stoppers on 1300333000 or the Raymond Terrace Police Station on 49837599.
