Felicity Carter was elected as the 2014 Library Champion for her dedication and passion towards supporting literacy in the community.
The volunteer literacy tutor spends many hours spreading the word about the library’s Better Reading Better Communities project.
‘‘Felicity has been committed to the Better Reading Better Communities project right from the start and her passion, knowledge and energy have led to some great outcomes,’’ Chris Jones, Great Lakes Library service manager, said.
‘‘She is always striving to improve the quality of life for the people in the region, particularly when it comes to better reading.’’
From 10am on Monday, May 25, renowned bush poet Dennis Scanlon will speak at Forster Library.
The 71 year old began writing poetry 10 years ago, but it was not until the Tyalgum Diggers asked him to write them a poem in 2013 honouring the Australian Light Horse, that Mr Scanlon’s attention turned to the Anzacs.
‘‘My poetic style was always bushy because I’ve spent my life working with livestock and meat,’’ he said.
‘‘However, there’s always been a deep sense of Anzac tradition in me because my father was in World War II.’’
