Screenings of actor and director Damon Gameau's film, which focuses on health and the consumption of sugar, at Nelson Bay Cinema were organised by Anna Bay woman Lauren Chircop.
Ms Chircop, who runs Live Well meetings at Tomaree Library and Community Centre each week, said she cared about the community's health.
"The film has been ... very thought-provoking and made people think about their health and the hidden effects of the consumption of sugar," she said.
The film follows Gameau as he embarks on an experiment to document the effects of a high sugar diet.
Throughout the documentary, Gameau highlights some of the issues that plague the sugar industry and where sugar lurks on supermarket shelves.
The June 3 showing will also act as a fundraiser.
Money raised from tickets, which cost $15, will go to helping families Ms Chircop met on an African mission in 2013 and to a Medowie family for cancer treatment expenses.
That Sugar Film will screen at 6.15pm.
Tickets can be bought by phoning 0410 609 285.
