A RAAF Williamtown leading aircraftsman (LAC) has been recognised for his outstanding work after a busy 12 months as an explosive detection dog (EDD) handler.

LAC Jesse White, 28, from Corlette, received the prestigious Combat Support Group Airman of the Year award in April for implementing improved EDD methods that are making Defence Force personnel and bases safer.
He helped establish the EDD capability within No 1 Security Force Squadron, enabling vehicle and personnel bomb searches on entry to RAAF Base Williamtown, which were not previously available.
"It an absolute privilege and an honour to be recognised after such a busy 12 months," he said.
"The work is something that I am very passionate about so to be recognised in this way makes gives me the encouragement to continue to improve and excel."
In addition to his work with No 1 squadron, last July the dedicated dog handler was tasked with training the Air Force's English springer spaniel, two-year-old Casey, who was purchased from the NSW Police Force.
"I have had Casey in training for about nine months now and he's coming along well. He's a bundle of energy and certainly keeps me on my toes."
LAC White, who performs operational duties with his regular military dog, a labrador named Lucy, said it was the first time that the Air Force had used an English springer spaniel.
