But it was "a lot" to say the least, because to hand-build your very own Interceptor you need to take in as many details on every aspect of the vehicle as you can to make it look authentic.

Mr South, from Brandy Hill, said he built an Interceptor simply because he liked the first two films starring Mel Gibson.

"The styling of the car is from the first and second movies."

"It's pretty much perfect."

It was about 13 years ago Mr South bought a standard two-door 1976 Ford Falcon XC with a dream to turn it into the car from Mad Max.

The first 12 months was simply getting the rust out of the body.

Then came the modifying.

A majority of the work was done by Mr South who is a boilermaker by trade, right down to fashioning his own bonnet scoop.

The vehicle is registered and roadworthy, but Mr South said he was thinking of taking it off the road to do some touch ups.

The longest trip it has made was to Silverton, where Mad Max II was filmed, and to the Central Coast for a reunion with some of the original cast members who signed Mr South's glove box.

"Ninety-five per cent of the time it sits in the shed but whenever I take it out and pull up to a servo people can't help but take pictures," Mr South said.

"I don't mind at all."

As for the latest Mad Max movie, Mr South said he enjoyed it.
